In 2001-2002 academic year, The Center for Arab American Studies (CAAS) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, began an Arab America and Chaldean Archive Project. The purpose of the Project was to collect and preserve the documents and records of Arab Americans and Chaldean organizations, families and individuals. The collections would be kept in a safe environment, protected from fire, weather, loss, and other hazards. Most importantly, these collections would be permanently available to scholars and community members. However, unlike a library, these records would not be available for loan and would be for only “in-house” use so there would be minimal chance for loss.
